Mulhouse is in the south of Alsace, to only 30 minutes of Basel (Swiss), Freiburgo (Germany) and the EuroAirport, and to only one hour of Strasbourg.
Mulhouse received its name for the first time in year 803. In 1308, the city obtained the condition of Imperial City and it stayed like an independent republic until 1798, year from his adhesion to the French Republic. During century XIX, Mulhouse became one of the richer industrial cities of the country. At the present time new industrial sectors are arising in addition from most conventional (automobile, electromechanical, chemical): manufacture integrated by computer, telecommunications, industrial services applied to computer science sciences, environmental engineering and sciences.
It is worth the trouble to visit the historical center of the city. The impressive one “Pleases of the medieval Meeting” and the “Nouveau Quartier”, a set of buildings of century XIX of innovating architecture, for example, they are an important test of the historical legacy of Mulhouse.
Mulhouse counts with great amount of beautiful museums, as they are the National Museum of the unique Automobile in the world thanks to his Schlumpf collection; the National Museum of the Railroad and its matchless collection; the Museum of the Weave that remembers sumptuous the last one of the city; or the Museum Electropolis EDF dedicated to the electricity. Or perhaps it prefers to give a stroll by his beautiful parks like, for example, the zoological and botanical Gardens. Other museums in the outskirts also will surprise to him: the Museum of the paper painted in Rixheim, the Ecomusée in Ungersheim (a museum outdoors) and the Wesserling Park - Textile Museum in Husseren-Wesserling.
