Montpellier is a city of the south of France and capital of the region of Languedoc-Rosellón and the Hérault department. This crossed by two rivers: the Lez to the east, and the Mosson to the west. In occitano it is said: Montpelher. In Montpellier French Monpelié is pronounced.
“Montpellier” comes from “mont pelé”, or mounts bare, due to its little vegetation.
Today, 8ª city of France by its population intra-walls, is one of the few, between the cities of more than 100,000 inhabitants, whose population has been increasing of uninterrupted form for fifty years, and has doubled during this time.
It limits: to the N with the communes of Saint Clement de Riviere, Montferrie the south-Lez and Clapiers, to the NE with the commune of Castelnau him-Lez, to the S with the commune of Lattes, to UNDER with the commune of Saint Jean de Vedas, to Or with the commune of Juvignac, to NOT with the commune of Grabels.
It is the city of Luis XIV, the French revolution, the Blue Coast, much history: Youngest child of Tudela, the Jewish travellers of century XII, Christians and saracenos, Arabs of Maghrib, retailers of Lombardía has given to the city a special form.
Nowadays it is the bigger university city of the south of the country.
