Carcassonne is the capital of the department of Aude (France) (in the Languedoc-Rosellón region). Its walled city was declared in 1997 Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO.
It is located halfway between Perpiñán and Toulouse, to the south of France.
Carcassonne is located in the French region of Aude, to 160 kilometers of the Spanish border and to ninety of Toulouse. With 45,000 inhabitants, in the city two differentiated parts are distinguished clearly: ciudadela fortified, important medieval enclave that an important paper in the crossed one against the albigenses played; and the villa, created later to give capacity to the growth of the population.
