This community, located in vrtice western of the valley of the Ebro, presents/displays, in spite of his reduced dimensions, a privileged variety of landscapes, flora and fauna, due to the different geogrficas caractersticas from its natural regions, giving to life the ros that cross it to frtiles fertile valleys. Being ms pequea community of Espaa, has participated in important way in all the histricos moments of sta. Occupied by the Romans and Muslims, it was in the Average Age, center of disputes between Navarre, Castilla and Aragn. In this same perodo, the Way of Santiago supposed a determining fenmeno for its cultural development, becoming a center of influence of first order, specially to travs of its Monasteries, true centers of the knowledge and in where fragu the first text written in Castilian. In this way is the way laid out by monumental villas of great beauty like Calahorra, Arnedo, San Milln of the Cogolla, Santo Domingo of Calzada, and Logroo, already founded by the Romans and who are today the capital.
When the Ebro crosses the narrow passage between rocks of the Shells of Haro, it appears in the Rioja, by where it runs winding during 120 kilmetros, before continuing its way towards the Mediterrneo. In the Shells of Haro the altitude of ro is of 600 meters and when it leaves by Alfaro it goes to 260 meters. Ro runs, therefore, very rpido by the Rioja. The right border, the one that it has to the South, belongs to the Rioja. Slo in seven occasions - Brias, San Vicente of the Sonsierra, Logroo, Agoncillo, Alcanadre, Rincn de Soto and Alfaro- crosses the Rioja the Ebro towards the North, extendindose few kilmetros by the left border. To the South of ro, between 60 and 40 kilmetros of distance, one extends compares the Ibrica mountain range, with altitudes that oscillate between the 1,000 and 2,000 meters of altitude. The mountain range it is come off towards the North, entering the Rioja, the mountain range of the Demand deeply, having in San Lorenzo with his 2,271 meters mxima La Riojan altitude.
In the High Rioja it dominates to the atlntico climate of smooth temperatures (in winter mnimas is sitan in the 4 Cs, and summer mximas from 15 to 22) and moderate precipitations, that are diminishing towards the Rioja Baja. The Eastern zone is level and of mediterrnea tendency, although his invier to us they are fros. The greater situated temperature difference in its mountain ranges, where in winter inferior temperatures are reached to the 0 C.
