Spanish province located in the Independent Community of the Canary Islands, formed by the islands of Great Canary, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote; as well as by a series of six smaller islands (Alegranza, the Graceful one, Clear Mountain, Island of Wolves, Roque of the East and Roque of the West). Account with 1.010.511 inhabitants (2005), being the twelfth Spanish province in number of inhabitants.
The capital of the province is the city of the Palms of Great Canary, in the island of Great Canary. The Palms of Great Canary are a canary municipality pertaining to the province of the Palms (Spain). It is located in the northeast of the island of Great Canary. It is the capital of the island, the capital province and also shared of the Independent Community of the Canary Islands along with Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In addition it is the greater city of the Canary Islands (seventh of Spain). Km² has an extension of 100.55 (ISTAC, 2003). Its altitude is 8 meters on the level of the sea. The climate is of little precipitations, the temperature average goes up to around 20ºC.
The gentilicio of the city is "palmense". At the present time 378,628 inhabitants reside in the Palms of Great Canary (National Institute of Statistic, 01-01-2005), population that grows every day due to the number of people who move every day from next urban nuclei (Telde, Arucas, Gáldar, et cetera) to develop their professional workings. Its metropolitan area is 10ª of Spain and has 616,903 inhabitants. According to the University of Syracusa, the Palms are the city with better climate of the world. This study, published in 1996 analyzes 600 cities with popularity as tourist destiny and is based on climatic variables throughout the year, locating the annual average temperature in 22ºC. The city presents/displays a linear distribution, throughout the coast and with a main artery, the Marine Avenue, that crosses the city from an end to another one. At the moment with the recent creation of the circumvallation, almost the totality of points of the city is accessible without having to make the urban bullet hole. By their importance, some points of the city can be emphasized, referred next with the popular name of such and the one that any neighbor of the capital will give him if he asks for some of them.
