This precious enclave of the old Mare Nostrum is an archipelago made up of 5 islands and several small barren islands. Divided in two groups of islands, to the North the Gimnesias (Majorca, Menorca and Cabrera) and to the Southwest the Pitiusas (Ibiza and Formentera).
Their smooth climate with more than 300 days of sun to the year, their gorgeous landscapes and beaches, their amplest cultural supply, its possibilities of leisure or relax and the hospitality of their inhabitants has turned them a visited cosmopolitan place from all the places of the planet, sometimes to spend vacations, and sometimes to remain for always. It is not a surprise that the airport of the capital, Palma de Mallorca, is the most concurred of Spain. The Balearic ones surprise to us and fascinate; each one, with its native personality, difference of the other, and all has in common the one that is difficult to leave them without desire to return time and time again.
The Balearic Islands are an Independent Community of the Spanish State, governed by the Statute of Autonomy of the Balearic Islands. There are three Insulares Advice: in Majorca, Menorca and in the archipelago of the Pitiusas. Majorca also has regions that, although do not have official recognition, if they are consensuadas by the geographers.
The capital of the Balearic Islands and the island of Majorca is the city of Palm, also Ciutat call in Majorca. There it is the Balearic Insular Council and seat of the government of Majorca.
The population in the islands is of 878,627 people (2001), of who 545,739 are native, 240,955 come from the rest of Spain and 91,933 were been born in other parts of the world.
