General Information

Murcia is a region that in spite of to have made well-known by its gorgeous beaches, still presents/displays a great number of singular beauties to discover. It is indeed in his natural conditions and their resistances where a great part of the attractiveness of this region resides. Natural spaces that could not be different from a desert coexist next to the leafy orchards of the Valley of the Safe one and the Guadalentin; modern urbanizations of the coast next to towns of the interior with medieval structure, and great human concentrations practically contrast with uninhabited regions.
Their landscaping and ecological diversity along with their Mediterranean climate, of little precipitations and smooth winter temperatures, creates a microclimate that it invites to the well-being. Its coast, that counts on up to 200 beaches in its two seas, the Mediterranean and the Smaller Sea, limited by a earth arm, the Sleeve, has become one of the most important tourist concentrations of the call Warm Coast. Murcia was populated in the antiquity by Iberian tribes who established intense commercial relations with Greek Phoenicians and, founding these last numerous commercial factories on its coast. It is perhaps since then and for that reason the reason that its history has always come marked by the naval and agricultural character.
Later she was host of the first cartaginense colony in Spain, Carthage Nova, and during the Arab domination, it was independent kingdom, being his fertile agriculture operated by the moriscos with advanced systems of irrigation, it has generated the fame international that the products of their orchard enjoy until today. This aspect also extends to its gastronomy, with a popular kitchen varied and balanced in that they emphasize the stews, the salads, the roasted ones and the rice. But it is not only his orchard the one that provides excellent raw materials, also the sea is source of the Murcian kitchen, with excellent fish.
With respect to its wines we have to mention that some of them are gaining a deserved prestige, every time with more quality, counting some of its warehouses with important national and international prizes. His folclore combines religious manifestations of long tradition with festejos of lay cut and pagan root. Its Festival of Mediterranean Folclore in the first fortnight of September, the Easter of Murcia, or their parades of Moors and Christians are some of the celebrations worthy to be present at.
