São Jorge, another one of the islands of the central group very is extended (58km of length by only 8km of length) and its form makes think about a great and immovable marine monster. The highest part of this plateau reaches in the zone the west from Pico do Areeiro to the Tip it give Caldeirinhas, happening through the Tips of Esperança and Carvão and is covered by endemic vegetation of great botanical value reason why it is no wonder the zone counts on several Natural Forest Reserves.
The rough coast of this island offers, mainly, cliffs covered with trees hurrying several hundreds of meters towards the ocean. The cliffs most impressive are in the North coast where they arrive at heights of 480 meters. |
