Gaviao is a Portuguese villa of the District of Portalegre, Alentejo region and subregion of the Alentejo Stop, with near 1 800 inhabitants.
She is host of a municipality with 293.55 km ² of area and 4 887 inhabitants (2001), subdivided in 5 freguesías. The municipality limits the west and the north with the municipality of Mação, to the east with Nisa, the Southeastern with Crato, the southwest with Ponte de Sor and to the west with Abrantes.
Gavião received leasehold from Manuel I of Portugal the 23 of November of 1519.
