Avis is a Portuguese villa of the District of Portalegre, Alentejo region and subregion of the Alentejo Stop, with near 1 900 inhabitants.
She is host of a municipality with 605.55 km ² of area and 5 197 inhabitants (2001), subdivided in 8 freguesías. The municipality limits the northeast with the municipality of Alter do Chão, to the east with Fronteira, the south with Sousel and Moor and to the northwest with Ponte de Sôr.
