Amares is a Portuguese villa pertaining to the District of
Braga, North region and subregion of the Dug one, with near 1 300 inhabitants.
She is host of a small municipality with 81.86 km ² of area and 18 521 inhabitants (2001), subdivided in 24 freguesías. The municipality limits the north and the northeast with the municipality of Terras de Bouro, to the Southeastern with Vieira do Minho and Póvoa de Lanhoso, to the south with Panties and the northwest with Vila Verde.
