The region of the Alentejo, located to the Southeastern of Portugal, bordering with Extremadura and the province of Huelva, has a 23,522 extension of Km2. and an approximated population of 550,000 inhabitants. It is divided in two parts mainly High Alentejo, with capital in Evora and Under Alentejo, with capital in Beja.
The Alentejo is divided in 8 vinícolas Sub-regions, that are following the Vidigueira, Farm-Amareleja, Reguengos, Redondo, Borba, Moura, Evora and Portalegre. In addition it exists in the extensive altentejana plain, a geographic area that includes/understands the districts of: Portalegre, Evora and Beja, where Vino Alentejano takes place Regional, concept that includes different wines, that are faithful reflection of the vitivinícola Alentejo, with all its traditions.
Alentejo plains in which the Vista is lost, mixed with sun and heat, imposes a slow and compasado rate of life. We are in the Alentejo.
In the interior, the immense plain, golden wheat fields waving to the wind; in the coast wild beaches, of a rustic and unexplored beauty.
In the amplitude of the landscape cork oaks and olive trees put in themselves that resist to the time. Here and there a walled enclosure rises, like Marvão or Monsaraz, or the simplicity of anta remembering the magic of the place. In the cortijos, white houses of ground floor crown small elevations, the castles evoke fights and conquests and the patios and gardens are witnesses of Arab influences, that molded the town and nature.
In the Alentejo, the Earth force marks the time. Perhaps for that reason the culture acquires here a particular character. It is enough to know Roman Évora, its roots and the enchantment of his patrimony, to understand so that reason has been classified World-wide Patrimony. Admire the temple of Morning call and some of his churches. One will not regret.
But the north or the south without exploring the coast does not go away towards. There the landscape is elevated and escarped, with small beaches safe from cliffs. Also we have field aromas here, the aromatic grass ripen fish and seafood, the time runs slowly. Because all the Alentejo lives to the Earth rate.
