Alcochete is a Portuguese villa pertaining to the District of Setúbal, region of Lisbon and subregion of Peninsula of Setúbal, with near 14 900 inhabitants (2004).
Subdivided in 3 is host of a small municipality of 128 km freguesias. The municipality limits the north with the municipality of Benavente, to the east and to the south with Palmela, the southwest with Montijo and the northwest ribereña to the estuary of the Edge has a small strip. She is host of the Natural Park of the Estuary of the Edge. It has several still active salt mines and where nidifica an important colony of flamenco.
