Marches (in Italian It marches to Him) is a region of the center of Italy. It limits by the north with Emilia-Romaña, the Toscana and the republic of San Marino; by the northwest with Umbria; by the south with the Abruzos and the Straight one and the Adriatic Sea by the east. The region has an extension of 9,692 km² and one population of 1.430.000 inhabitants. The regional capital is Ancona. The region is divided in 5 provinces: Ancona, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata, (part of the old territory of Picenum), and Pesaro and Urbino composed by the traditionally separated provinces of Pesaro and Urbino, (partre of the old Umbria). In 2004, one vowed that a fifth province, the province of Fermo, is believed in 2009. The territory of this region is constituted in a 69% by hills and a 31% by zones of mountain.
The zones of plain occupy a 10% and they are located near the coast. Due to this predominance of hills and mountains, the Marks have been defined as "a high" region and, by its conformation, "a geologically young" region is also considered him. Monte Vettore is the highest tip of the region with their 2476 meters and the main rivers, in their majority of torrential character, are the Tronto and the Metauro. The most important lake of the region is the Lake of Pilato of glacial origin that is located to 1954 meters of altitude. The rest of the marquesanos lakes is generally of reduced dimensions and of artificial origin like the lakes of Caccamo, Grazie and Fiastra. Other important cities by their number of inhabitants are: Pesaro, Fano and Ascoli Piceno. This region has around 1.469.000 inhabitants and one density of 154 population of h/km². Finally, from the point of view of the economy, in the Marks they are very important industrial and tertiary the sector, that have been developed mainly in the last decades. The agricultural products that mainly are cultivated are: the wheat, the vegetables, the fruit, the olive and the grape, whereas, at industrial level, the industry is flourishing wastebasket.
