The Emilia-Romagna (Emilia-Romagna, in Italian) is an administrative region of the north of Italy. It limits the east with the Adriatic Sea, the north with the Véneto and Lombardía, to the west with Piedmont and Liguria, to the south with the Toscana, the Marks and with the Republic of San Marino. With 4.030.000 inhabitants in 22.123 km² (2003) is a densely populated region (specially in the central plain). Most of the cities they were founded by the Romans having followed the course of the Emilia Route, name to which it must the present denomination of Emilia. Agriculture is the more important economic activity: potatoes, tomatos, onions, grain and maize are the main products, in addition to the fruit and the grapes for the production of the wine (perhaps most famous it is the Lambrusco). The region produces some of the most typical products of the Italian kitchen, as for example the Parmigiano-Reggiano cheeses (parmesano) and Seeds Padano, jamón of Parma and mortadela of Boloña, or the balsamico aceto (balsamic vinegar) of Módena. One of the másprósperas regions of Italy, Emilia-Romaña is a gigantic coffer with jewels monumentalesy artistic masterpieces, old and famous universities, modern centers artistic and cultural deformation. In Bologna, seat of the oldest universidaditaliana (century XI), is really innumerable the monuments of great artistic level.
