In Piedmont there is a great rice field that constitutes an extraordinary spectacle during all the stations of the year. The center of this rice region is Vercelli, a city of important agricultural tradition and deep historical and cultural roots. The symbol of the city is the abbey of Sant' Andrea, an important example of the combination of gothic and románicos elements, and in whose interior the splendid Ligneo Choir and Sala Capitolare can be admired, that, in addition to being one of most beautiful of Italy, was host of an important historical event: La Paz between the Guelfs and the Ghibelline of Vercelli, signed in the presence of emperor Arrigo VII, in 1310. Between the most famous treasures of the city they can stand out the Capitolare Library, in which is the Vercelli Book, one of the most famous manuscripts of the world that goes back to the century X and that is written up in old Anglo-Saxon language; the cathedral of Sant' Eusebio, in whose interior it is possible to be admired greatest of the four crucifijos of otoniana time which they exist, made in laminae of silver and gold, and the Borgogna Museum, the second pinacoteca of Piedmont, with pictures of Italian and foreign artists from the Average Age to century XVIII.
In their elegant historical center prestigious palaces pertaining to important families of the place are raised; in the Piazza of the Palazzo Vecchio, also call “Piazza dei Pesci” locates the old Broletto and splendid Torre Comunale of century XII. The heart of the city is the Piazza Cavour, with its magnificent medieval porch that is point of contact to take the appetizer and seat from the weekly market. The lovers of the pastry shop will not be able to resist to bicciolani, typical galletitas of Vercelli, with pastaflora and a mixture of spices between which she emphasizes the cinnamon.
