The shipyards and the traffic of ferrys with Scandinavia are inseparable of this traditional marine villa, like the ship-school “Gorch Fock”, that documents the narrow bows of Kiel with navy.
It has important shipyards and it every year celebrates “the week of Kiel”, that consists of several regatas of international fame. The other city of the region is Lübeck, whose medieval set is catalogued by UNESCO like cultural patrimony of the humanity.
