The City Libre and Hanseática of Hamburg, (in Hamburg German) is a city located to the north of Germany. At the same time it is a federated state that has an extension not much greater than the one of the own city (755 km ²). Hamburg has the second greater population of Germany after Berlin. Hamburg is located between Schleswig-Holstein (to the north) and Baja Sajonia (to the south) to borders of the Elbe river, that ends at the North Sea to about 100 kilometers of distance. From its opening to Hamburg the river is navigable, even by great boats, which turned already to the city centuries ago an important port, that today it is the second with greater I deal in European Unión (UE), only surpassed by the one of Rotterdam. An affluent of the Elbe, the Alster also crosses downtown, where it forms two lakes that they give to Hamburg one of his more characteristic images.
The climate of Hamburg is very unstable due to the proximity of the North Sea. A day can be cold and rainy, and to the following one to make sunny and summery a time. The diurnal average temperatures oscillate between 17 degrees in July and a degree in January. However, during the summer the temperature arrives occasionally until the 25 degrees.
It is worth the trouble to know the church San Miguel, with his tower of 132 meters and good panoramic views of the city; the old House of Post office, now an elegant commercial center; the building of the City council and the House of Chile, a construction of red brick of expresionista style. But the true enchantment of Hamburg is in its harbor zone, with the tower of the Clock, the green cupola of St Pauli Landungsbrücken, the old warehouses and the free port, frank zone that can be visited freely, where rise tens of bridges.
